Every plant needs the right season. For example, you can&#8217;t grow <a href=\"\/en\/plants\/zucchini-how-grow\/\" class=\"ek-link\">zucchini<\/a> during the winter or <a href=\"\/en\/plants\/broccoli-how-grow\/\" class=\"ek-link\">broccoli<\/a> during the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To learn what vegetable, herb, fruit, you can grow in what season<\/strong>, please consult the <a href=\"\/en\/garden-calendar\/planting-calendar-when-sow-plant-vegetables-herbs\/\" class=\"ek-link\"><strong>Planting Calendar<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first time you cultivate, you can start by preparing a part of the garden area or by <a href=\"\/en\/soil-garden\/build-raised-bed-made-roman-roof-tiles-cheap-solution\/\" class=\"ek-link\">building raised beds<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be done either by digging the soil to a depth of 15 to 20 cm and enriching it with organic matter such as manure or <a href=\"\/en\/soil-garden\/wood-chips-kipos-thrymmatismeno-ksylo-veltiosi-xomatos-edafos-ofeli-texnikes-empeiries\/\" class=\"ek-link\">wood chips<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mix the soil with the organic matter and let it settle for about 2 weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then buy seeds or seedlings from <a href=\"\/en\/garden-business-directory-map\/\"><strong>nursery shops or garden centers<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sow sees or plant seedlings in rows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Water regularly. In summer you need to water more often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watering can be done by yourself, or by using an <a href=\"\/en\/garden-tools-services\/automatic-irrigation-garden-tips-instructions\/\"><strong>automatic irrigation system<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As time passes, you will see the plants grow and produce fruit!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Start cultivating in the city<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Even if you live in urban areas, you can start growing vegetables in the city. On a balcony or a rooftop!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get start growing vegetables in the city all you need is:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soil<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seeds or seedlings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In the city, you will find many <a href=\"\/en\/garden-business-directory-map\/\"><strong>nursery shops or garden centers<\/strong><\/a> from which you can purchase the basic equipment you will need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because plants, and especially vegetables need sun to photosynthesize and grow, the place where you&#8217;ll choose to put the pots with vegetables should be in a sunny spot, with sun exposure for at least a few hours a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to get into ornamental plants and make your balcony beautiful, fortunately there are many ornamental plants that easily grow in shade or even without direct sun exposure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But we have even better news for you!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Indoor plants<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also grow plants inside your house. You can beatify your indoor space with <strong>indoor plants<\/strong>. Make your home space more pleasant to humans and look like close to nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But indoor plants have also another advantage. They clean the indoors air. Check <strong><a href=\"\/en\/urban-gardening\/18-indoor-plants-clean-air-according-nasa\/\" class=\"ek-link\">18 indoor plants that clean the air, according to NASA<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In other words, you can put potted plants inside your home and office and apart from being beautiful, they also act as biological filters and clean your air!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All they need is to water them.&nbsp;That&#8217;s a good partnership!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What gardening tools you&#8217;ll need<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s a good question!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For growing vegetables in the garden you will need a few gardening tools:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Shovel<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hoe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garden hoe<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pruning shears<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Garden bags for waste<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Buckets for compost, fertilizer and manure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Watering hose and\/or automatic irrigation system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Reeds or other means of supporting plants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As you become more experienced, you will discover that a <strong><a href=\"\/en\/garden-tools-services\/compost-shredders-tools-garden-better-composting\/\" class=\"ek-link\">compost shredder<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0will help you make your own <strong><a href=\"\/en\/soil-garden\/wood-chips-in-garden-soil-improvement-experiences-techniques\/\" class=\"ek-link\">wood chip<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>For growing vegetables in urban areas you will need at least:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Pots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Soil in packets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pruning shears<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support means (e.g. reeds) and ties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small garden hoe, although even a tablespoon is sufficient to mix the soil<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fertilizers and watering<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In both cases, you will eventually need fertilizer (organic or chemical).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also water to irrigate the plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why start growing and learn about plants?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By growing your own vegetables and fruits, you will only make a profit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You know what you eat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You know that no pesticides were used<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will eat tasteful vegetables and fruits<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;ll know how it was produced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;ll have a criterion to evaluate the fruits and vegetables you buy from the market<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your vegetables will be a source of great satisfaction and knowledge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;ll have a good time<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;ll rediscover natural rhythms. The rhythms of nature<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You&#8217;ll rediscover the seasons<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beauty. Lots of beauty!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You will give oxygen to the community! Plants absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and turn it into oxygen!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help bees by providing food and flowers to them!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will everything be perfect? I won&#8217;t have any problems?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;d be lying if I told you everything would be perfect.
