Fifteen-year-old high school students in Denmark designed and carried out a science experiment to test the effect of mobile phone radiation on plants. The results may surprise you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Five fifteen-year-old young Danish girls recently created a science experiment that has caused a stir in the scientific community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They started with an observation and a question. The girls noticed that when they slept with their mobile phones close to their heads at night, they often had difficulty concentrating at school the next day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n They wanted to test the effect of cell phone radiation on humans, but their school, Hjallerup School<\/a> in Denmark, does not have the equipment to handle such an experiment. So, the girls designed an experiment that would test the effect of cell phone radiation on a plant instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The schoolgirls placed six trays filled with cress sees (Cardamom)<\/a>, a type of watercress, in one room without radiation and six trays of the seeds in another room next to two routers – routers with wi-fi, which the girls calculated emits the same kind of radiation as a regular cell phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the next 12 days, the girls observed, measured, weighed and photographed their results. Although the experiment, was not over, the results were obvious. The cardamom seeds placed near the wi-fi routers had not grown<\/strong>. Many of them were completely dead. While the cardamom seeds planted in another room, away from the routers, sprouted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The girls’ experiment won top honors in a local science competition and the interest of scientists around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to Kim Horsevad, a professor at Hjallerup School<\/a> in Denmark where the cardamom experiment took place, a neuroscience professor at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, is interested in replicating the experiment in a controlled professional scientific environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Wi-Fi in schools is proving dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\nThe experiment<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
